On Saturday, 25th April, the University of Manchester marked a significant milestone with the visit of senior leadership from Theta Tau to formally install its Candidate Chapter. The day began with the members of the university’s interest group learning about the structure, expectations, and responsibilities involved in operating a successful candidate chapter. This introduction provided valuable insight into the values and traditions that define Theta Tau, setting a strong foundation for future growth.
Following this session, the occasion was commemorated with a formal ceremony recognizing the University of Manchester as the only current non-American Candidate Chapter, which represents a historic moment demonstrating the increasing growth and global reach of Theta Tau. To continue the celebrations, attendees gathered at the Turing Tap where the members and senior leadership enjoyed great food and lively conversation. During this gathering, President Andrew Fretwell was presented with an official Candidate Chapter Certificate, bearing the names of all founding members. This symbolic gesture marked the culmination of months of hard work and officially sealed the candidate chapter’s place in Theta Tau history.
Overall, the day represented not just the installation of a Candidate Chapter, but the beginning of an exciting journey for everyone involved.

“Being an Englishman and leading movements in American ‘Greek Life’ has been an alien, but immensely rewarding, experience. My board and I have learnt invaluable lessons about organisational development, particularly about setting culture within fledgling communities. Being part of these groups and projects has been the single most rewarding part of life at the The University of Manchester.”
