As seen in The Gear- Fall 2025:

In the fall semester of 2024, Xi Beta hosted a 25-hour video game livestream on Twitch to raise money for Extra Life, which donates to local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. In our area, the proceeds go to Corewell Health Southeast Children’s Hospital. Active and alumni brothers came together to make this stream possible, streaming from 8:00am on Saturday, November 2nd, until 8:00 am on Sunday, November 3rd (daylight savings ended, hence the 25-hour stream). One of our brothers, Jiyoun Namkoong (‘18) joined us from South Korea to give our other brothers a chance to rest during our later shift. The games we streamed included: Stardew Valley, the demo of Monster Hunter Wilds, Overcooked, Hades II, Minecraft, Lethal Company and Slay the Spire. Less than halfway through the stream, we quickly surpassed our initial goal of $500, so we raised our goal to $750. A few hours later, this goal was also met. At the end of our Extra Life stream, we raised $1000 for
Extra Life, all thanks to our generous donors.

Later in the school year, Xi Beta hosted another (albeit much shorter) Extra Life charity stream during the Spring 2025 semester. On Sunday, March 30th, Xi Beta hosted a five-hour charity stream from 12:30 pm to 6 pm. This stream raised an additional $165 for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, briging our grand total to $1165 for the school year. Recently, brothers have also been planning to host another Extra Life charity stream over the summer semester to continue supporting this cause. As many brothers live out of the area, if not out of the state, both active brothers and alumni will be able to join the stream either in person or remotely via Discord. Xi Beta hopes for the best for our next stream, and we hope to surpass our previous fundraising goals for this amazing cause.

Editorial Note: Since publication in The Gear – Fall 2025, Xi Beta Chapter has hosted their semesterly Extra Life event again. Their 24-hour livestream hosted on Twitch was packed with popular video games like Stardew Valley, Silksong, Overcooked, and Peak, and they celebrated each milestone towards their goal with brothers in the chat, ultimately raising over $1000 in that single event. Keep up the great work!
